Yesterday was an absolutely great and shitty day all rolled into one. We got out of the house but damn did I feel like shit! I was utterly exhausted and worn out and probably will be for most of the next few weeks. But yeah, what should have been a pretty damn exciting day was hard to enjoy to its fullest with me wondering how the hell I was going to stay up for so damn long.
Before I get any more backed up, the fucking fireworks woke me up at 7:30. I really wasn’t expecting them to start that shit before dark. It was 8:30 when they started the night before. The last two nights in the house were absolutely horrendous. I never heard so many fireworks in my life. That house was the “never before” of all times! Even Tom said he didn’t know that the state had that many fireworks in it in the first place to sell. But it was just boom-boom-boom in rapid succession and it didn’t taper off until well after midnight.
I lay in bed for most of the night because I didn’t have the energy to do much else, and what I did do, I did in spurts. We were mostly packed up and ready to go anyway so it was just the last-minute things.
We decided not to take the vacuum, especially since I would rather have a cordless one anyway. At least it was useful for vacuuming up the cockroach that he discovered in his bedroom. He noticed them hiding in the rocks alongside the carport. So I guess we got out of there at a good time since there were mice in the storeroom and roaches in the rocks. We’ll be leaving the whole damn state in time for a three-day heatwave of 108 degrees.
Kimberly showed up after 8 along with Mike and he started gathering items we left while we spoke with Kimberly as far as which keys were what. He also set the coded door lock back to its default code of 1 2 3 4.
The water is going off today, LOL, and I teased Carolyn about coming over here to our hotel if they want to take a shower and let her know we’re in Roseville.
I gave Gerry a quick “shame on you for your mutt” message she probably won’t ever see.
So far this hotel is quieter than the house was! After we left the house, we went through McDonald’s drive-thru. It was too early for lunch so we got breakfast instead. We each got bacon and egg biscuits and hash browns. After 11, he went into the hotel lobby and asked if they had a room available before 3 and I was so disappointed that they didn’t because I was totally exhausted. I tried to nap in the car but there was no way I could because I was so uncomfortable even reclining in the seat. Despite it all, I was so glad they hadn’t picked up the car yet because we wouldn’t have any place to wait if they had.
So he grabbed a few things from Walmart while I waited in the car with all our shit, and we waited and waited and waited, making a couple of runs back to McDonald’s so we could use the bathroom. Finally, they called at 2 to say they had a room ready.
This extended-stay hotel doesn’t look anything like the other one. This one has an inside hallway. The other place had to be accessed from the outside. We’re on the third floor but we’re not on the end. It’s been peaceful so far. We’re in the middle of the floor and near the elevator.
The room is kind of small but not overly. I just wish the kitchen was stocked with dishes and silverware but apparently, we have to request that. It has everything else we need but I sure miss having a bidet and more than one bathroom! I had the runs this morning and had to hurry him up out of the shower.
The layout of this room is different and the kitchen and bathroom have laminate flooring whereas the other one had linoleum.
Once we got into the room I was so wound up by then that I couldn’t sleep. So I went from trying to stay awake to trying to sleep. Not even Calms Forte helped. So I had a wine and after being up for 22 hours, I finally ended up crashing for 5.5 hours until somebody had to go and slam a door or something and wake me up. It’s still peaceful overall, though. He says that while I slept he heard maybe two door slams and a couple of barks somewhere. The sound machine I slept with worked great and was a great help.
The bed is fairly comfortable in that it’s soft and okay for lying on my back or my side but when I went to lie on my stomach it almost felt like springs were poking my rib cage, so since he bundled up my mattress pad in his suitcase, we threw that over the bed and it made it better. They have what seems to be called a textured coverlet and I think it would be good for a warm climate like Florida. It’s almost like a thick ripply sheet. The pillow I had was too plump but he had one that was flatter so I took that one.
The AC works great and I never woke up with hot flashes during my sleep. I was worried about that but it has a good fan that I have running continuously. I did wake up cold a few times and ended up bumping the temperature up from 68 to 76.
So when I got up at 11, I took my meds, took a shower, and ate something. Then I dozed back off for a couple more hours. I’m still a little tired but nothing like yesterday. I’m in a much better place emotionally too.
As the sun was coming up we got the car charged, got burgers and fries from Jack in the Box, and then picked up more things from Walmart.
